Understanding Payment Statuses: Initiated, Pending, Success, Failed

When a customer tries to pay through AstaBill, you'll see a status on the invoice. Here's what each status means.


When a customer tries to pay through AstaBill, you'll see a status on the invoice. Here's what each status means in plain language.

Statuses explained:

  • Initiated — The customer clicked Pay Now and the Paystack checkout opened. Payment hasn't been completed yet. They may still be on the payment page.
  • Pending — The payment was submitted but Paystack is waiting for confirmation from the bank or mobile money network. This sometimes happens with bank transfers or MoMo.
  • Success — Payment was received and confirmed. Depending on the amount paid, the invoice may be fully paid or remain partially paid with a balance still due.
  • Failed — The payment didn't go through. Common reasons: card declined, insufficient funds, timeout, or the customer closed the page before completing. The invoice balance remains unchanged.

Tip: If an invoice has been Pending for more than 24 hours and you are not sure whether payment went through, email info@astabill.com with the invoice number and we will check the transaction status for you.
